Delivery Mode

Traditional Class Mode
Class sessions will be devoted primarily to
discussion of the topics, based on the lecture
notes (which you should read in advance), the
assigned readings, and your own experience.
Discussion questions and lecture notes will be
provided at least one session ahead.

There will be a minimum of straight lecture; which admittedly puts the burden on you to
master the material. Lecture notes for each session should be brought to class. A high
level of student participation in the discussions is encouraged and expected.

Asynchronous (Internet) Mode

In this mode, all topics and assignments are the same as in the traditional class mode except
that in place of class discussions, students are assigned questions one week in advance on the
Discussion Forum. In lieu of class participation, each student is expected
to respond to the discussion questions. Since the responses of other students who have already
responded will be viewable, each student is asked to add to, discuss, or debate prior respondents'
answers. On the day of the session, the instructor will provide summary comments on the responses
received. One hour will be set aside weekly for a simultaneous multimedia (voice and data) teleconference to discuss questions and issues raised by students, but attendance is optional.
