Conferencing

In place of/addition to class discussions, we will be using two conferencing methods:

Prometheus On-line Discussion Group

You may enter the conference by pressing the "conferencing" button to the left of the screen:

wpe12.jpg (4339 bytes)Once in the forum, you will be asked to enter the username and ID that you were assigned the first day of the course. Registered Vanderbilt students will use the VUNet ID and Password. NTU students should remember to type in GUEST_USERNAME when asked for user name.  Although Prometheus is fairly intuitive, it has a HELP button for every screen if you need it. If you're still having problems with Prometheus, contact the instructor.

How the On-line Discussion Group will be Used

Discussion Questions. For each week of the course there will be a separate "thread" on which I will post one or more questions. These will be our discussion topics. One of the course requirements is for you to contribute one or more "replies" to each discussion topic. Just as in a class discussion, your challenge is to build on all the previous comments appearing on the screen (either amplify, critique, or offer a different angle altogether, but not to simply repeat what's already been said). I hope you will comment more than once on a topic - that's what makes discussions lively! The deadline for all comments on a topic is 6 PM on the Sunday at the end of the week in which the topic was assigned. The discussion topics for Sessions 1 and 2 are now posted on the Forum. So go ahead and contribute your piece.

Marketing Plan Discussion. Each week, a different individual or team will post their marketing plan-in-process (see "Term Project: The Marketing Plan" on the Assignments Page) for the class to review and critique. This process gives everyone a chance to apply the skills learned in the lectures and readings and gives the presenter valuable feedback to use in sharpening or revising their plan.

In-class Communication: Just as in a live class, I expect you will have many questions and comments. The on-line discussion group offers threads on which you can post your your questions and comments, just as you would ask questions in a live class. I will respond to them and I strongly encourage other class members to join in the discussion. If your question or comment is of a confidential nature, of course, you are welcome to use e-mail.

Weekly Voice Teleconference

To supplement the on-line discussion group, a weekly voice teleconference will be held during the course

  • TIME: Thursdays, 4-5 PM Mountain Time (6-7 PM Eastern, 5-6 PM Central , 3-4 PM Pacific).

  • PHONE: Dial the NTU Teleconferencing Bridge - 970-206-1723 - pin number: 01#

  • PARTICIPANTS: All distance learners

  • COST: For most participants, this will be a long-distance call. Long distance charges are the participant's responsibility.

  • CONFERENCE AGENDA: There is no set agenda for the teleconference -- it is a time for you to ask questions and offer answers and suggestions.

  • OTHER INSTRUCTIONS: Try to be at your PC and connected to the class website during the conference, as we frequently refer to files or pages on the website.

  • REQUIRED/OPTIONAL?: Your participation is optional but strongly encouraged; students in previous classes have found these free-flowing discussions very valuable.
